Tutors
How is my tutor selected?
All our tutors are thoroughly interviewed, and background checked. We interview every tutor and only select those who we consider good enough to provide you with an outstanding service. Once we have introduced you to a tutor, you will have full control over communications, and you will employ their services directly.
We select your tutor after your consultation, based on skills, qualifications, experience and personality.
What happens if I want to change my tutor?
If you are not happy with your selected tutor, the Agency will change the tutor with no further charge. A waiting period may be necessary to engage the replacement tutor, however we will endeavour to find a suitable replacement in as short a timeframe as possible.
How do I keep track of my lessons and payments?
Our Parent Platform makes managing payments easy. Once you have agreed to employ a tutor, you’ll need to create an account with us. You can also check lesson reports, have access to your lesson history and invoices 24/7. Your tutor is in charge of your invoicing and any initial questions about payments need to be raised with them first.
How do I get my tutor and child's teacher to work together?
Your tutor will be very happy to communicate directly with your child’s school. After discussing this with your child’s teacher and tutor, you can send an introductory email with both parties included, giving your consent for the school to share information.
We love working with teachers in this way as it speeds up progress!
How do I add more lessons or change my lesson times?
Simply contact your tutor directly about this. They go ahead and make those changes for you, if they can accommodate your request.
Payments
How do fees and payments work?
There is a low-cost, non-refundable enrolment fee and after this you simply pay for lessons each week through our platform.
The total lesson fees are made up of the Agency fee and the Tutor’s fee.
You never pay for lessons you don’t take unless they fall into our late 24-hour notice period.
How do I manage my account?
Once you have agreed to employ a tutor, you’ll need to create an account with us. Our Parent Platform (Tutor Cruncher) makes managing payments and communications easy. You can also check lesson reports, have access to your lesson history and downloadable invoices 24/7.
How do I pay?
Pay as you go lessons: Our autopay system
Lessons are paid for on a lesson-by-lesson basis. When you create your account, you will be invited to add your card details to the system before your lessons begin.
Once your tutor writes your report, your debit or credit card is charged 1 day later. You’ll always get an email notification from us ahead of the charge being made.
This payment is automatically charged from your card 1 day following the tutor marking your lesson complete. You will receive a notification by email about the fee before the charge is made.
Please note that sometimes tutors may write up 2 or more lessons at once. Please check your account and invoices/lesson-dates if you think there is an issue.
Joining us means agreeing to the autopayment system.
A note on Amex cards
If you would like to use an Amex card to make payments, this incurs and extra £5 per lesson. This is due to the high card fees that Amex charges on our side we cannot, unfortunately absorb.
What if I need a refund?
Should you require a refund, you need to request this from the tutor directly, cc’ing the Agency in.
What if my payment fails?
If your payment fails, you need to action this manually. Log into your account and make the payment. You can also email us to action the payment again.
Can another person join my account?
Yes, we can offer account sharing so that a family member or friend can read reports, make payments and view your lesson history and invoices.
Cancelling lessons & giving notice
What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?
You can cancel a lesson at any time outside of a 24-hour period with no charge, by notifying your tutor directly. Your tutor may be able to offer you another time should you both wish. Any cancellations for any reason, including sickness, within a 24-hour period incur a late cancellation charge of the full lesson amount.
What if my child is off school with sickness but ok for their lesson?
If your child is sick, we would ask you to contact you child’s tutor. Please bear in mind that our tutors want to stay healthy and may prefer to move the lesson or go online if they have availability. If the notice falls within our 24-hour policy the full lesson amount is payable.
How does it work if I want to stop lessons?
You can stop your lessons anytime by letting your tutor and the office know. There is just a 7-day, payable notice period. If you want to stop lessons, please email your tutor directly cc’ing the Agency in.
Can I be guaranteed a grade or entry to a school?
Elite Tutors Sussex Ltd its agents or registered tutors do not guarantee any grade, level or entrance to any school or University by a student who is tutored by a tutor registered with Elite Tutors Sussex Ltd.
During lessons
Do I need to be at home?
At our Agency, we strive to keep everyone safe, therefore, a chaperone such as a parent or legal guardian defined as a person of at least 18 years of age, must be present (at home) during each tutoring session by the tutors with any minor, defined as any person under the age of 18 years of age. This also applies when working with a tutor online.
Where should the lesson take place?
In order to keep everyone safe, we always request for lessons to take place in a downstairs room (eg: never a bedroom) with the door open and in earshot of a parent or guardian. Students need to be appropriately dressed and the space needs to be quiet. We suggest a dining room table, study or kitchen table.
Your tutor will send further details of what equipment/stationary etc you might need.
Keeping everyone safe is of paramount importance to us.
Parent communications
How will I know how my child is doing?
One of the benefits of working with a Tutor from our Agency, is that they are selected for their communication skills. They will be happy to discuss how things are going at the end of the lesson and each tutor writes a full report after each lesson.
You can view your reports from your Parent Dashboard at anytime.
What can I expect form the agency when lessons have started?
We are always on hand to discuss how our systems and processes work and to answer any educational questions you may have.
We often send out helpful education tips written by our education experts.
Although we cannot be involved in disputes with a tutor, there are a number of ways that we support our families by giving advice and guidance.
You can consider us your educational guides throughout your journey with us and we’ll always endeavour to help you no matter what your question.
Do you have a referral scheme?
Yes, we do- we offer a gift of one free lesson to each family who refers us to a friend. This is applied directly to your account.
What are the other benefits of working with Elite Tutors?
We run regular offers for our families, and we also send out helpful, educational information with tips and hints for supporting your child throughout their educational journey.
You are assigned a consultant who will be your guide and is available to you for advice and support whenever needed.
If, for an unexpected reason, your tutor leaves we offer a smooth handover and source another tutor for you with no fuss.
