GCSE Maths
Every parent wants their child to get proper attention when it matters most, and with GCSEs on the horizon, Year 10 is where the real groundwork gets laid. That is why our small group GCSE maths tuition is capped at just three students.
As professionals, we base our decisions on research and evidence, not guesswork, convention or what fills a group fastest, and the Education Endowment Foundation’s own research shows that small group tuition can lead to significant additional progress over a school year, but only when the group stays genuinely small. Three is where the evidence and educational research suggests the balance sits best, as well as what we have found in practice, enough for a bit of healthy peer learning, small enough that no child gets lost.
This programme is suitable for students working towards a grade 4 through to a grade 6, following either the Edexcel or AQA GCSE maths specification.
How the Programme Works
These are live online GCSE maths sessions, run on Thursdays at 5.30pm for a full hour, in term time blocks of 10 weekly sessions, with breaks over the school holidays. The current block runs from the week beginning 21st September through to the week ending 6th December.
The full programme covers three blocks across the year:
- Autumn term: Number and algebra foundations
- Spring term: Geometry, statistics and probability
- Summer term: Graphs, further algebra and exam preparation
Each block builds on the last, and every session is planned against the Year 10 curriculum and the Edexcel and AQA GCSE maths specifications, so what your child covers with us lines up with what they are doing in school.
Suitable for Grade 4 to Grade 6, Edexcel and AQA
The core programme is designed around the grade 4 to 5 target, which is where the majority of students preparing for their GCSEs sit. But we know maths ability rarely fits neatly into one box. Where a child is working at the higher end and ready for grade 6 style content, we build that stretch in as the group progresses, based on how they perform in the initial assessment. A student working towards grade 4 or 5 on the foundation paper will not need this stretch, and that is exactly the point. Whether your child sits Edexcel or AQA, the group is shaped around the students in it, not the other way round.
How We Match Groups
We group students of a similar grade together, so no one is left behind or out of their depth, and each student gets the right amount of stretch at the right time. This thoughtful matching is part of what makes small group tuition work, rather than simply filling three spaces.
If a group does not reach three students, we will offer your child one to one lessons at our usual one to one rate instead, so your child’s learning is never left waiting on someone else’s booking.
What Each Session Looks Like
Sessions move at a proper pace, always with a short recap or diagnostic at the start so the tutor can adjust on the fly. Topics are taught in a clear sequence, from number and algebra foundations through to full exam style practice, with two built in review and assessment points along the way to flag anything that needs revisiting. Towards the end of the programme, sessions shift into timed exam practice under real conditions, followed by a personalised list of what each student should focus on in their own revision.
You’ll receive a short report after every session, so you can follow your child’s progress week by week. Alongside that, most parents notice real changes in confidence, and over time, in how their child is doing with maths at school.
Who Teaches These Groups?
Every Year 10 maths group is led by a qualified and experienced maths teacher, someone who knows the GCSE curriculum inside out because they have taught it in a real classroom, not just tutored from a textbook. As with every tutor we recommend at Elite Tutors, they hold an Enhanced DBS check with a Children’s Barred List search, the highest level of safeguarding check available in the UK. We also check the Teaching Regulation Agency’s prohibition register, confirming a tutor has not been barred from teaching, a step we believe no other agency in Sussex currently takes. Alongside this, our tutors bring the kind of subject expertise and evidence led approach that means your child is learning with someone who genuinely understands both the content and how children learn it best.
Booking and Fees
Families can sign up a term at a time or commit to the full year. There’s a small one time £38 enrolment fee at the beginning to secure your place, alongside session fees of £38 per student, payable as you go. Booking a place means committing to the full block of 10 sessions, and because groups are capped at three, that commitment holds even if your child misses a session or you decide not to continue, the full amount for the block remains payable and sessions are non refundable.

As sessions are small, live and interactive, we’re not able to offer catch up notes or recordings for missed sessions.
